BDFF Newsletter

Dear friends and members,

We are overwhelmed by the gestures of goodwill witnessed over the last couple of weeks and are inspired by the fact that faith communities have been at the front of our borough’s quick response to COVID-19.

We wanted to use this email to share some updates from local initiatives.

BD CAN
LBBD Council has teamed up with community and faith organisations in local neighbourhoods, so that we can get the right help to the right people. This project is called it BD CAN– which stands for Barking & Dagenham Citizens Alliance Network. It starts with co-ordinating community support for local people affected by coronavirus, but it’ll be bigger than that – we want it to be the key place to go if you want to make a difference in your local community. And we need your help.

Get in touch if you, or someone you know, might need this kind of support over the coming weeks by visiting this website, emailing bdcan@lbbd.gov.uk or calling 020 8215 3000 (Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm). If you want to offer help, you can register at www.lbbd.gov.uk/volunteering.

Don’t forget! We can all do our bit by keeping calm, supporting each other and shopping responsibly so that there’s enough for everyone.

Coordinating food banks
Thank you to everyone who has let us know about food banks in your local communities. By sharing information we can ensure support and donations are better coordinated. Email us on info@bdfaithforum.org to let us know of more.

Complaints procedure about unfair trading
We have been informed by LBBD Council that there are shop keepers and owners are exploiting customers by overcharging for in demand goods. If you have experienced this please report it here.

Sharing stories about volunteering and social action
We are experiencing scary and uncertain times and have to respect the seriousness of our current situation. That said, we have all witnessed inspirational examples of volunteering and social action in response to COVID-19.

We also know that many of the borough’s community projects and charities have amended their services to ensure they continue to support those in the borough who need care and attention. We want to share and showcase inspirational examples of community or individual social action but need your help!

Stay safe and keep well.
Faithfully,
Himanshu Jain
